As Cincinnati matured, this extensive activity, supported by men and women of wealth and vision, led to a flourishing group of cultural institutions. Inaugerated by Clara Baur's Conservatory of Music in 1867 and capped off by the founding of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in 1895, the last third of the century supplied the cultural foundation that continues to support the city's artistic life."
