From School Library Journal:

Grade 3-6 A broad overview of multicultural Canada, focusing primarily on the present, but supported by excursions into the cultural history of Canada's European settlers. The native population gets relatively short shrift. The book includes chapters on ethnic composition, legends, holidays, foods, education, and sports. While it touches on such standard school-report topics, these are presented from the perspective of their basis in or impact on cultural or ethnic consideration in insufficient depth to serve as a single source. The index, which sometimes supplies incorrect page numbers, does not lead to some subjects found in the text (free-trade, for instance). The text, which is for the most part clearly written, often oversimplifies to the point of encouraging stereotypes, while the incomplete approach to such issues as Canadian-American relations could be misleading. The exclamatory style, enthusiastic though it may be, intrudes as distracting and condescending. Although varied and well-spaced, many of the photographs appear to have been resurrected, and the captions are weak at best. As a general introduction to Canadian culture, this would appeal most to casual readers who would go on to other sources for more detail and depth. Better bets for homework assignments are Grolier's topically organized ``Focus on Canadian History'' series, for slightly older readers, and Anthony Hocking's ``Canada'' Series (McGraw-Hill Ryerson), with a separate volume about each province. A more multi-faceted source of information on Canadian culturalism is the ``Multicultural Canada'' series (Van Nostrand Reinhold), each volume of which discusses a separate ethnic heritage.
