Kindergarten-Grade 2-- Four British imports that never quite make their focus clear. They are too simplistic and general to be used as background material for teachers, yet they are too difficult for children to read by themselves. The ``fun projects'' lack imagination and creativity--for example, in Red , Woolfitt suggests that readers look around for hot places and make red signs to warn people. However, the full-color photographs and illustrations are very appealing. They feature people and events from around the world to tie in with the topics, from blue tiles on a mosque in India to red poppies in Flanders. Only the high quality and range of the illustrations make these titles worth consideration.
