Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. The 1995 softcover reprint of the 1979 first edition by International Marine Publications, with a new introduction by the author and foreword by the designer's grandson, Dr. Simon Archer. Includes biographical details of Colin Archer's life, but concentrates on his many famous pilot and rescue boat designs. These boats became the vessel of choice for many of the early circum-navigators, and sailors such as Vito Dumas, Erling Tambs, Ralph Stock, Marin-Marie, and Erskine Childers, made their voyages famous. After the second world war many designers chose the Colin Archer type as a model, and boats appeared from the boards of John Atkin, Alan Buchanan, Nelson Zimmer, William Garden, and the author himself. There is some slight discolouration to the borders of the pages but otherwise a near-fine clean tight copy. 167 p. Book. Seller Inventory # 001163
