Story of life in the Owyhee Valley, Malhuer County in Eastern Oregon & Washington at the turn of the century as water was brought to the Desert. Tough, hard working pioneers! Marian (Lowe) Quackenbush is a native of Eastern Oregon and has spent most of her life in that area or in Eastern Washington. She lived on three different homesteads and on at least that many different irrigated farms where the Owyhee River was the source, or anticipated source, of irrigations. She saw that source augmented by a small man make dam and later by the huge Owyhee Dam in the canyon of the river. This dam was a fore-runner of the Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia in Washington.
