About the Author
David R. Collins is an award-winning author who has written numerous books for young people, including Sower Series Abraham Lincoln, George Washington Carver, Florence Nightingale, and Francis Scott Key. Mr. Collins has been honored by many organizations, including the Junior Literary Guild, the National Book Council, and the Illinois Council of Parents and Teachers. For many years Mr. Collins has taught English to high school boys and girls. He enjoys helping them get acquainted with Charles Dickens and William Shakespeare, as well as more recent authors. When I write for young readers, says Mr. Collins, I attempt to apply a 'double E' standard to my work. I hope to entertain and educate. I want my young readers to enjoy the experience of reading and taking something away from it too, even if it's just one new word or one different idea.
