Book by Bultman, Bud

The recent dramatic changes in Eastern Europe were the result of actions by many unknown individuals from varying backgrounds. As producer and writer for CNN, Bultman covered the events in Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, and East Germany and met those whose stories he tells here. Many are members of the clergy; others are laity who demonstrated in or near churches. Their stories are told in brief vignettes, switching abruptly from one country to the next, from one city to the next, and from one person to the next. Events in any one place are fragmented and difficult to follow. This narrative technique actually obscures the role of the individual's religious faith in changing history. The disjointed result adds nothing to the burgeoning literature on this period. Not recommended.
