America: Land of Principles and Promises

Many histories have been written about America, but few have drawn on the older, multi-volume works by early historians. Based on these older works, this book captures anew a more accurate picture of American history as it really happened. It was written over many years as an attempt to bring some of the lost yet exciting events, stories, and personalities from early America once again to the forefront of the history class.

All history is biography, wrote Ralph Waldo Emerson, and within American history in particular we have re-discovered the stories of the great and good people who made it happen. The study of honorably-written history can change lives because it shows that goodness and truth ultimately prevail; it shows that standing for right--sometimes against terrible odds--leads to greatness; it shows that respect for the equal rights of others leads to greater advancement of mankind.

America needs a rising generation who know and feel the important lessons history teaches. We hope this book will help them fulfill their manifest destiny, as America fulfills hers.

Review:

This new American history textbook faithfully portrays how America came to be. The author appears to have drawn from many original sources--sources often overlooked in many history books that tend also to favor purely secular approaches. Patriot Profiles, for example, highlight the significant characters who left marks on history. One is called Heroines of the Revolutionary War. Other highlights include brief stories such as Paying the Price: What Happened to the Signers of the Declaration of Independence. We understand the Founders pledged their lives, fortunes and their sacred honor, and many truly did lose their lives and their fortunes--yet retained their honor. Consider using this textbook in teaching the rising generation our country's unique history and the inspiring unvarnished truths of our founding fathers.

Extensive footnotes and a long bibliography assure that the content has been very well researched and documented from most original sources. --B. Crockett
