Reviews

Grade 3-5 --Four poems about fairies serve as accompanying texts to Petillo's full-page and double-spread color paintings. The artwork is obviously the purpose of the book and, as it is predictable and pedestrian, readers might well heed the opening line of William Ruscoe's "The Butterfly's Ball"--"Come take up your hats, and away let us haste." For an imaginative treatment of 19th-century fairy poetry, see Jane Breskin Z alben's illustrations for Jane Yolen's An Invitation to the Butterfly Ball (Philomel, 1983). --Kathleen Whalin, formerly at Public Library of Columbus and Franklin County, OH
