American scholars and practitioners, mostly of Christianity, seek to bring Jews and Christians together in a common study enterprise to help them learn more about each other and remove the misinformation that has led to much intolerance through the centuries. The 10 chapters here are written by authors of different faiths. The first chapter (and by far the longest) is by Rabbi Lazowski, a Holocaust survivor. He writes that the aim of this book is to bring Jews and Christians together in a common enterprise that will inevitably lead to increased knowledge about one another and help to remove the religious misinformation that has been basic to so much intolerance throughout the centuries. Lazowski, author of five other books, explains the Jewish religion in precise detail. The other chapters are by clergy representing Roman Catholicism, Orthodox Christianity, Protestantism, African Methodist Episcopal, Evangelical Protestantism, Baptist, Unitarian Universalism, Anglicanism, and Mormonism. Most of the chapters are cast in the form of questions and answers and discuss such religious matters as baptism, confirmation, confession, heaven and hell, sickness and death, celibacy, the liturgical year, holidays and festivals, and relations between Christians and Jews and Christians and the state of Israel. The book is highly relevant and unflinching in its approach to a controversial and difficult subject. George Cohen
