Synopsis
For his new book, Núñez collected the ancient stories told in Santería, a widely practiced religion resulting from the syncretism of Western African Yorùbá religion and Catholicism. These stories speak about the actions and conflicts of the divine ancestors of the Yorùbá slaves of Nigeria and have been retold for centuries by native-born Africans and their Cuban-born descendants during their sacred and secular dances, carnivals, and festivals throughout the Spanish and Portuguese colonies.

About the Author
Although Luis M. Núñez lived in Cuba until age ten, "The American educational system proved to be very effective." He found his parents' beliefs merely quaint. Marriage to a Cuban woman revived his heritage, leading to Santeria: A Practical Guide to Afro-Caribbean Magic, also published by Spring Publications.
