Fortunately, the man she marries is sympathetic, and her memoirs record her growing relationship with him and her attempts to come to terms with her adopted home. Although Wanwadee is appealing, her cultural generalizations often appear too pat. Also, although she protests that Asian American women are more than "kitchen appliances with sex organs," she fails to connect the Asian mail-order bride business with perpetuating this image.
