Originally from Muncie, Indiana, poet Elaine Carmichael Crump began writing poetry while in high school. In 1960, she moved with her husband and their three daughters to Lafayette, Louisiana, the land of Acadiana. Mrs. Crump uses free verse in her poetry book Chinaberry Beads . In her poems she attempts to convey the life and customs of the Acadian people up to the 1850s.Language Notes:
