Mammoth Cave National Park, located in south central Kentucky, was first set aside in 1926. In 1972 it was pronounced the longest recorded cave system in the world.

Joy Medley Lyons, Supervisory Park Ranger at Mammoth Cave National Park, earned her B.A. in English and Creative Writing from Western Kentucky University. Further studies in American History and Folk Studies have meshed with Joy's lifelong love of writing, giving her the opportunity to assist in preserving our nation's cultural and natural heritage.
