Reviews

"Baubles, bangles, and beads" galore?and over 700 pictures of them. Leafing through this book is like going through your grandmother's jewelry boxes. Former actress Moro examines fashion, artists', and costume jewelry from 13 European countries from turn-of-the-century Art Nouveau to today's explorations of unusual materials. Familiar names like Schiaparelli and Chanel are covered, but the real asset of this book is that less well known jewelry designers are discussed. Though they may now be forgotten, their work was integral to the complete "look" of the costume of a particular period. As a "Schiffer Book for Collectors," this work includes a value guide and in a few cases marks and labels. Ultimately, however, it is simply an entertaining and informative guide to a part of the jewelry world where imagination runs free. A bit pricey but reader friendly; recommended for most collections.?Therese Duzinkiewicz Baker, Western Kentucky Univ. Libs., Bowling Green
