Read more about : headdress, John Kaquitts, David Bearspaw, McDougall Indian Mission Church, Shirley Crawler, and Chief Mountain. Prior to European contact the Stoneys were a mountain front people, who roamed territory from the Brazeau River to south of the 49th. These 184 pages - with INDEX - give their history, mostly post-contact. Plenty of b/w photographs throughout. Cond : Boards are blue with gilt lettering - spine only. End-papers are burgundy. D.J. is blue with white lettering. Cover graphic has an elder's face superimposed on a mountain range. Volume is tight, bright, square, and clean. No marks, no tears. Excellent reading copy ! ! Quote (p. 37) : " But the Stoneys of the Bighorn - Kootenay Plains area were not invited to participate in the Treaty Eight settlement, nor have they ever been permitted to sign an adhesion to any treaty.
