The editor jointed the Waffen SS in 1940 and served on several fronts throughout the war until his capture in Normandy in 1944. For over eleven year he developed a picture library ad the Bundesarchiv in Koblenz and provided many of the rare photographs that appear in this book. Ward Rutherford was brought up in Jersey, where he experience the Nazi occupation for five years. He has had extensive experience for both BBC and independent television and has authored ten books, including Second World War topics. S. L Mayer was educated at the University of Michigan and Yale University and became a Professor of History as several academic institutions. He has written or edited over 20 books, including WWII topics. This work has been described as the best Photo book of the German leader and his inner circle.
