Synopsis
Here the author Helen Hosier contemplates that perhaps the greatest need of man is to know how to forgive and be forgiven, she believes it is a vital spiritual principle. It is sobering to hear that Jesus said…He cannot forgive us if we do not from our hearts truly forgive others. And we hurt others and ourselves when we gratify our own brutish passions by venting our anger and refusing to forgive. This is a serious breach of the sixth commandment, according to His word. The author writes that forgiveness involves forgetting, she continues by explaining that although the facts about a past grievance cannot be altered, the meaning can be changed. The experience of true forgiveness means that although you may recall the hurt, there is no going back to relive the hurt, the memory is powerless to arouse anger. She calls it forgetful forgiveness. That is forgiveness that restores the present, heals for the future, and releases us from the past.
