Judge Robert Bork states in his foreword that this work may "infuriate" some readers, and indeed Grenier, a columnist for the Washington Times, does write about film and television within the context of his conservative beliefs. Films are obviously selected because of their broad social and/or political themes--e.g., Communism ( Reds ), feminism ( The Bos tonians ), patriotism/militarism ( Breaker Morant ); performers and filmmakers, including conservative icon Clint Eastwood, are discussed from a similar perspective. Although some hackles may be raised, this is no political screed. Grenier is an able and, at times, perceptive critic, as evidenced by the 12 essays and 34 shorter pieces included here. Recommended for general collections.
