9780896583924: Lancaster County (Pictorial Discovery Guides)

Lancaster County is perhaps the most famous county in the United States, and is one of the few counties known internationally as well. Much of this fame is due to the presence of the largest population of Old Order Amish and Old Order Mennonite people in the country. But Lancaster County is much more than these communities. In colorful text and stunning photos, our local experts tell the whole story of the place and people who call this remarkable area home.

Everything--from colorful roadside stands to Amish farmsteads to historic homes to auctioneers on the podium--is captured in Lancaster County. Complementing the reader-friendly text are approximately 130 fabulous, full-color images.

Ed Klimuska weaves colorful examples and interviews with Lancaster County residents with a wealth of fascinating information about this most exceptional place. Lancaster County also incorporates some 25 fascinating sidebars focusing on everything from a local quilter to a doctor who specializes in treating genetic disease among the Amish. A colorful map and a section on where to obtain more information round out this complete A to Z guide to Lancaster County. For visitors to and residents of Lancaster County.

Review:

A reader will gain a distinct flavor of the county, its people and their communities. -- Pennsylvania

Lavishly illustrated by local photographers Keith Baum and Jerry Irwin . . . lovingly documents Lancaster County as residents see and know it. -- New Era,Lancaster, PA

The rich variety of photographs is the 'frosting on the cake' of the book-and the 'cake' itself is substantial. Klimuska gives more details than are ordinarily found in coffee-table books. His material is clear and easy to read. . . . But the easy reading is deceptive. The text is packed with details and little-known facts about the area. Klimuska's narrative also reveals how deeply he cares about his subject. -- Tribune-Review, Greensburg, PA

This is a big, beautiful picture book for the coffee table. The book is well written & well integrated with the excellent pictures. It's a beautiful book about a beautiful place & people. -- Travelwriter Marketletter
