Raptors of War is based on World War II Prisoner of War Bill Tritz's real-life story of serving with the 15th Air Force Division which was sent to Spinnazola, Italy.
The story is told through the eyes of Sparky, a young radio operator whose Army wing called itself the Raptors. Flying what started as a typical mission, their journey was interrupted by gunfire in a catastrophic Allied bombing raid over German-occupied Czechoslovakia. The aircraft decimated and its crew scattered, Sparky was suddenly on his own in a fight for survival. Aided by partisan heroes who risked their own lives to save his, Sparky was intermittently captured and tortured. He endured physical and emotional injuries, but outwitted his adversaries with street smarts, a sense of humor and the bravery of strangers who helped him and his comrades return home.
