Synopsis
It is just Inspector Ghote's luck to be landed with the case of the Perfect Murder at the start of his career with the Bombay Police. For this most baffling of crimes there is the cunning and important tycoon Lala Varde to contend with. And if this were not enough, Ghote finds himself having to investigate the mysertious theft of one rupee from the desk of yet another Very Important Person—the Minister of Police Affairs and the Arts. About the Author
H. R. F. Keating was born at St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex, in 1926. He went to Merchant Taylors, leaving early to work in the engineering department of the BBC. After a period of service in the army, which he describes as "totally undistinguished," he went to Trinity College, Dublin, where he became a scholar in modern languages. He was also the crime books reviewer for the Times for fifteen years. His first novel about Inspector Ghote, The Perfect Murder, won the Gold Dagger of the Crime Writers Association and an Edgar Allan Poe Special Award.

Author H.R.F. Keating has created several very clever, entertaining and unique detectives. In The Perfect Murder, Inspector Ghote's at the helm in Bombay. The main character, Lala Varde, speaks in rhyme, which Davidson portrays splendidly in an Indian accent. Varde's reaction to the victim who is foolish enough to get himself murdered in Varde's home makes for good comic relief. Davidson excels and presents female voices in an entirely new and believable style. The book has multiple characters, yet Davidson renders each of them distinct.
