This is an early therapist guide for treating OCD using exposure and response prevention (ERP) which is the "gold standard" evidence-based treatment for OCD. A number of newer therapist guides have been published since this one, including my own book Overcoming obsessive compulsive disorder that included cognitive therapy as well as ERP.  These books remain useful as basic clinician guides for treating OCD.

About the Author:

Dr. Gail Steketee is Dean and Professor at the Boston University School of Social Work. She received her MSW and PhD from Bryn Mawr School of Social Work.  Her scholarly work has focused on developing and testing treatments for obsessive compulsive spectrum disorders, especially hoarding symptoms in recent years. She has published over 200 articles and chapters, as well as more than a dozen books on these topics. Her books include therapist guides, client workbooks and self-help books on OCD and OC spectrum conditions including hoarding. With colleague Dr. Randy Frost, she co-authored the best-selling book Stuff (Houghton-Mifflin Harcourt, 2010) and the first edited scholarly volume on hoarding disorder, the Oxford Handbook for Hoarding and Acquiring (Oxford, 2014). She received the Outstanding Career Achievement Award from the International OCD Foundation in 2013. She a gives frequent lectures and workshops on hoarding and related conditions to professional and public audiences in the US and abroad.
