Book by Scharf, Martin
"synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
This practical, sympathetic book is based on the successful program the author developed as a specialist at the Sleep Disorders Laboratory of Mercy Hospital (Cincinnati). Scharf explains the causes of bedwetting and clearly presents a four-phase treatment based on positive reinforcement. He emphasizes the importance of the child's self-esteem; he insists, for example, that the child take as much responsibility for the treatment as possible. Cartoons provide gentle humor as well as unthreatening illustrations of wetness alarms the child might wear. His approach is friendlier than that described in Nathan Azrin and Victoria Besalel's A Parent's Guide to Bedwetting Control ( LJ 1/80). Highly recommended for public libraries.
