A collection of sixty riddles making use of homophones, or homonyms, words that are pronounced the same but have different spellings.

Grade 3-5 While some of these homophone riddles are memorable and age-appropriate (``Who will neigh `Nay'? A horse saying no''), others strain to be amusing, and the vocabulary is not accessible to many middle-readers (``Where's a frieze in a freeze? Under a cold cornice''). The illustrations are exceptionalamusing pencil drawings with attractive blue and orange highlightsbut they are not enough to rescue some of these abysmal riddles. Librarians with many requests for Maestro's other word play books and for similar titles may wish to purchase this one. However the gap between the wit of the illustrations and the awkwardness of the text may disappoint borrowers. Deborah Vose, Lake Region High School, Bridgton, Maine
