This collection of pithy, exciting, three-to-six-page stories relates classic college football games. The volume kicks off shortly after a modernization of the game's rules (which permitted unlimited passing and four downs instead of three) with a 1913 Notre Dame vs. Army tilt and concludes with the infamous 1990 Colorado vs. Missouri game. Some of the finest moments in intercollegiate sports are found in between: rivalries, bowl games, the 1928 Note Dame contest won "for the Gipper," and glimpses of the early careers of the likes of players Joe Montana and Bernie Kosar and of coaches Knute Rockne and Bear Bryant. Information for the stories was drawn from sports information departments, interviews with players and coaches, and secondary sources. The contests described kept viewers on the edges of their stadium seats, and their stories will keep readers at the edge of their armchairs. For sports collections.
