Description from the book flap: This book traces the history of this Squadron from its inception, during 1916; through the aerial struggle of World War One. during the uneasy peace of the 1930's the Squadron displayed its potential at many Air Displays throughout the country - this potential was realized at the testing time of World War Two; with the Squadron gaining many honours. The story is continued through the jet age to the present day when 'No. 43' is maintaining its traditions in the Middle East. In 1916, 43 Squadron under the command of Major W. S. Douglas pioneered the tactics of the 'ground attack' - with its Sopwiths, this role being perpetuated throughout its long history until the present time. The book is rich in the personal anecdotes of the flying personnel and ground crews and all who are or have been associated with this famous fighting unit. It is also a valuable reference with its appendices of aircraft code serial numbers. The many illustrations include some which are unique and combine to present graphically its splendid history.
