Leilani Parker who was born in Ka’u, Hawaii, was the wife of Edmund Kealoha Parker Sr. for nearly 40 years. Leilani graduated from high school at St. Andrew’s Priory. She went on to attend Cannon School of Business where she graduated in stenography. After her marriage to Ed, she furthered her education at BYU in Provo, Utah.
As they always say "Behind every great man, stands a great woman", and Leilani was no exception to this saying. Many do not realize much of the strength Ed Parker had, can be attributed to his wife, Leilani. People tend to forget who manned the business while Ed Parker was out servicing the world. With the large responsibility of having to raise five children.
Leilani had other equally large assignments, such as editing her husband’s books, accounting, and organizing the Internationals, just to name a few. Leilani additionally found her church responsibilities an important service, and no matter how small or large a task was, she was determined to accomplish each one.
She was faced with a difficuit decision days after her husband’s passing. It was a decision most widows should not have to face so quickly. However, Leilani gathered her children to see whether or not they should try to pick up the pieces and keep the business going. It was a unanimous decision, all felt a duty to those who were faithful to Ed Parker — the torch should be carried on.
Leilani knew this was not going to be an easy task, and she knew she wouid be faced with many challenges. In her heart, she had nothing but the best intentions, to keep and protect what she and her husband had worked so hard to build.
Today, with the help of her family and Kenpo family, she has managed to keep the International Kenpo Karate Association, IKKA Sales Company, Ed Parker’s Kenpo Karate Studio in Pasadena, and the International Karate Championships operating.
