C. B. Hodge was born in Aruba in 1939. He grew up in his parents' native St. Martin where the newspaper publisher and patriot introduced Hodge to writing. In 1970, Hodge moved to Harlem, USA, where he became influenced by the writings of Claude McKay.
He returned to St. Martin in the early 1990s. His writings began appearing in all of the major newspapers and he became a supporter of independence for St. Martin from French and Dutch colonialism.
