Lasana M. Sekou is the pen name of H.H. Lake. Sekou was born on Aruba, but grew up on the partly French, partly Dutch island of Saint Maarten. He wrote not only poems, but also monologues, short stories and essays. Besides, he edited a book on the history and culture of Saint Maarten and a compilation of political essays: The Independence Papers - Readings on a New Political Status for St. Maarten/St. Martin.Review:
Lasana M. Sekou is a performance poet. His calibanic voice moves between the public, revolutionary political rhetoric of Linton Kwesi Johnson and the lush, esoteric wordplay of Dylan Thomas. --Ervin Beck, World Literature in Review
After 30 years of his unique style of poetry writings and recitals, now comes this collaboration of relentless music ... contemporary ... classical tones amplify the lyrical content of Lasana's work. --Fernando R. Clark, Culture Time, PJD2 radio
Sekou trata de transmitir en sus versos la fortaleza y espíritu como los sintió al momento de crearlos y a la razón inspiradora de estos. --Francia Arrendell, El Hispano
