The second book from award-winning author/designer of The Kids' Nature Book has a goal to create an art book for young people that not only explains how-to, but also tells how and why each form of artistic expression developed. American Bookseller called it "one rainy day book that will keep children hoping for rain" and named it a Pick-of-the Lists.

Grade 3-8-- Milord targets a wide range of experience and capabilties with this comprehensive effort that includes 101 craft ideas. Because of the difficulty of language and the assumption of prior knowledge, only middle-school and junior-high age crafters will be able to use it independently. Activities are easily accessible through the inclusive index. Parents and teachers will appreciate the "Tick Tock" feature; a time-frame page lists each adventure according to the hours needed for completion. When recipelike instructions appear on a single page with large simple illustrations, in three-column form, the information is easily digested. But too often the steps flow over to the next page and drown in the beginnings of another craft. Margin facts appear every now and then and are often more interesting than the core information. Organization is generally good, however, and those looking for project ideas will find this encyclopedic guide much like a new cookbook--filled with endless possibilities. --Fran Powell, George G.
