"During the past few years we have had the good fortune to observe a number of classes where there was a lot of high level thinking going on. These were classes at all grades and in all subjects. Teachers from K through 12 in English and science and physical education and cooking and typing and math -- and all the rest -- were teaching thinking in highly creative ways. While we are interested in 'Thinking Courses' and will continue to read about them and ponder the matter, we are, at the moment, casting our vote for the teaching of thinking integrated with everything that the student does. We see as a particular danger separate 'Thinking Courses' for the gifted and talented student and not for the average or less-than-average student. In our experience, especially in the area of generating new ideas, less-than average, even disabled students, in a highly supportive atmosphere, can hold their own with the very able -- and should be encouraged to do so."
