When both my publisher and the best customer for my books suggested that I write a book teaching harpists to play from chord symbols, I was daunted by the fact that I needed songs to use as exercises and practice, and I would have to find out which were copyrighted and get permission where needed. Shirley Starke has played the harp since 1980 and has written many songs, 117 of which have been published. Her music has been played at concerts and folk festivals in the United States and in many foreign countries.
