Book Description Granite Publications, Hanover, New Jersey, USA, 1973. Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Office. The book is straight and tight with minimal shelf wear and no marks found. In this collection Hiroaki Sato has chosen ten Japanese poets of varying styles, and included a picture and biographical information introducing each section. Since poetry cannot rely on literal translations because of its subtle use of imagery and connotations of words, the translator must have an ear for the subtleties of the two languages. Sato has such an ear and has the advantage of knowing the cultures and images of both Japanese and American cultures. Included is a critique of the book written by an unknown person which adds insight to the work. Proceeds from the sale of this book benefit environmental restoration and education.
