During the period covered in volume 4, Navy and Marine Corps aircraft progressed from overall glossy gray-and-white paint schemes with colorful tail markings accented by red, white and blue national aircraft insignia to drab, flat and often times spotty tactical gray paint schemes developed to increase survivability. It is nice to note that even today a few colorful paint schemes appear in the air wings, if only on one plane per squadron. This book has a few caption errors and the occasional wrong aircraft designation, but the the few flaws are more than offset by the wealth of useful information in this book. Vol.4, with the other three, are essential references for historians as well as aircraft modelers. -- The Hook, Fall 1994
