The Art of Colors has such a fabulous cover and features so many beautiful artworks that we have seen noticeably strong sales. Because it is the second in a series (The Art of Shapes for Children and Adults was the first) we thought that the two books might share the prior sales numbers, but just the contrary, having a pair available has actually increased sales of each. Together, the books make a wonderful gift for both child and parents. We also find that people are buying a set for gifts and a second set for themselves.
As with the Shapes book, every artist invited to participate in the Colors book agreed. This is so unusual and speaks to the quality and value of the books. The author, who spent many hours finding the perfect works for each color, did not have to use pieces from her B list.
A portion of the proceeds from The Art of Colors for Children and Adults supports The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and its programs The book was produced by Cecil B. Widdifield.
The Art of Colors for Children and Adults is one of a trilogy. The Art of Shapes for Children and Adults is also available now; The Art of the Body will be available in September 1998.From the Author:
The Art of Colors for Children and Adults is a direct result of the success of The Art of Shapes for Children and Adults. So many people enjoy the Shapes book that Colors was a natural evolution. Again, my motivation was to encourage parents to look at art with their children from an early age. Children are open to everything, and have as much capacity to enjoy art as they do Pooh or Clifford. They may look at art differently than we do (not understanding the deeper meanings) but they still enjoy and gain from it. These books speak to families that know nothing about art as well as, of course, the many families for whom art is a mainstay of their lives.
Because this book focuses on colors the artworks selected are particularly bright, and therefore stimulating to children. Every page is different and thus a new experience or treat. They also love that the color words are translated into the four foreign languages of Spanish, French, German and Japanese.
I once again included text about each artists work, mostly as a gift to the parents. Once one has a baby it can be difficult to find the time to read for oneself; the short didactic-text is an opportunity for the adult reader to enjoy/benefit from a book that is also fun for the child. This book truly is for children and adults as the title states.
This book is very important to me, because it supports the arts, children, parents and families. I hope that you enjoy it as well. Please let us know what you think of it! Thank you.
