Synopsis
"Jan Opperman and I met back in 1972. Instantly it was clear to me, as it was to everybody else in racing at the time, that the way he lived, talked, thought, and raced made him different from any other race driver. In late 1973, I gave him a portable tape recorder, and a box full of blank cassettes, and suggested that if he kept an oral diary perhaps a book might one day come out of it. What you are about to read is, almost without exception, verbatim as it came off the cassettes. It concerns Jan Opperman's travels and adventures during the racing season of 1974." - Joe Scalzo
