Frank Aycox, teacher, therapist, recreation leader and author, grew up playing street games in Philadelphia in the early forties. Thirty years later he casually played similar games with students in a Philadelphia school as a consultant from the local Community Mental Health Center. The troubled students responded so favorably to the games that he developed a more extensive and systematic body of social games which teachers could use to cultivate positive classroom behaviors. After several years of successfully leading social games, Mr. Aycox became intrigued as to how and why the play brought about positive behavioral changes in students. This book is the culmination of his discoveries, research, and experience.
Mt. Aycox spent several years as a middle school science teacher and taught Physical Education, Recreation and Leisure as a Teaching Associate at Temple University where he received a M.Ed. in Therapeutic Recreation.
