Powell, S. Steven, Covert Cadre: Inside The Institute For Policy Studies
"synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
Powell has produced an "expose" of the Institute for Policy Studies, a D.C. think tank, and the "New Left" it supposedly represents. He argues, via gargantuan investigation, that IPS's hidden agenda places it radically to the left of traditional "progressive liberals." Despite the author's careful documentation, the reader has a sense of 1950s deja vu: Powell finds Communists or "fellow travelers" within academia, the religious left, and among former government operatives. To the casual reader, this work could be frightening; more seasoned observers may discard it. Still, the book provides insights into interest groups' pathways to power. Captivating, provocative; but often polemical. Frank Kessler, Missouri Western St. Coll., St. Joseph
