About the Author:

A recognized authority on waterfowl and penguins, Frank S. Todd has worked more than 30 seasons in the Antarctic, Subantarctic and high Arctic. As corporate vice-president of aviculture and research at Sea World for 16 years, he was the creator of the world-famous Penguin Encounters , and was responsible for many first controlled-environment breedings, including the Emperor Penguin. He is the author of six previous books, including the highly acclaimed Natural History of the Waterfowl of the World. An ardent environmentalist, Mr. Todd was awarded the prestigious gold Conservation Medal by the San Diego Zoological Society in 1996.
