The Parables of Ramakrishna

9780916356828: The Parables of Ramakrishna

Ramakrishna, the great Indian saint, delighted his listeners with stories that illustrated his spiritual teachings. He lived in the beautiful Kali temple garden at Dakshineswar in the outskirts of Calcutta for thirty years during the late nineteenth century. Ramakrishna s parables are populated with grass-eating tigers and mad elephants, wisemen, charlatans and simpletons, as well as the gods and goddesses of Hindu mythology. Born in a remote Bengal village, he remained a country boy at heart, using common situations from rural life to deliver profound spiritual advice to sophisticated city audiences. Like Buddha and Christ, Ramakrishna chose simple stories as the vehicles for complex moral and religious teachings. Forty of his parables are presented in his own words on this DVD.
