A former hunter he traded his rifle for a camera in the seventies and has since produced pictures that found their way into numerous publications. As a resident of Connecticut in the United States he goes on safari to different parts of Africa at least twice every year. He holds a doctorate degree in economic history and has written more than a dozen books on African history, politics, wildlife and conservation.
