About the Authors

Bon Whealdon was a remarkable person in many ways. His interest in Salish Indian history and culture preserved the memories of many Salish elders of the 1922–1941 period. We can only hope that more of his manuscripts will come to light in the future.

Dwight W. BilleDeaux, a member of the Blackfeet tribe who has married into the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, did the illustrations for this book. For more than twenty years, he has taught art students on the Flathead Indian Reservation. Galleries across Montana as well as Munster, Germany; New York City; Seattle; Washington, D.C.; Denver; St. Louis; Cambridge, Massachusetts; and Sacramento, California have exhibited his work. His illustrations have appeared in numerous books relating to the Blackfeet tribe and the Montana Salish tribes. He received his training at the Academy of Arts in San Francisco and the University of Montana at Dillon and Missoula.

Robert Bigart is Director of the Salish Kootenai College Press and has worked at the college since 1979. He began researching Flathead Reservation and Salish tribal history in the late 1960s.
