Somewhere deep inside me where the creative child lives I question and the voice of the inner child asks. "In our noble efforts to be "good parents", do we inundate our children with books that are either practical or attempt to teach manners or morals? And in our passion to make them good citizens of the world do forget their insatiable quest for learning that is entertaining." Could the real question be "how many of these books stifle the imagination and the curiosity and teach the values of the conventional adult world; money, power and public success?" More often than not our children simply tune these books or politely tolerate them.

The literature that my friends and I gravitated to, as children were those subversive texts that told what really matters is art, imagination and truth. I rode the covers of the "Black Stallion", lived on the island with Robinson Crusoe and fought every fight with "Tom Sawyer". I believe the works that touch our children, such as Maurice Sedak's "Where the Wild Things Are", will endure long after pedestrian tales have gathered dust. It will be those stories that mock current assumption, spark the imagination, which encourage questioning and appeal to the rebellious and curious child within us all. It is our only hope to create energy for change.

Most people would be happy if life was a little less painful. To me that isn't acceptable. We need to find ways, attitudes and philosophy toward life that insures it to be more joyful and fulfilling. We need values and ideals expressed in a way that is palatable to children. Stories that leave them begging for seconds and yet inspire the qualities they need in order grow, survive and experience life in the most joyful and least painful way possible.

This is the motivation, spirit and philosophy in which the "One To Grow On! "Series of children stories was created. I know these stories have made an undeniable difference in the lives of many children. They teach children how to create rather than how to destroy. They teach honesty, self esteem responsibility and cooperation. They inspire young imaginations and fuel the desire for success. The stories deal with all these elements in a way that every child will discover the perfect self within, giving him or her the determination to approach life with an attitude that is indicative of success.

How did these stories originate?

One to Grow On! series (individual stories) or the sets Tell Me a Story Tape Book and the Tell Me Some More Stories was created by a mother who wanted to stimulate her childs imagination, teach positive values and provide productive entertainment. Parents, teachers, professionals and children all over America have responded to her stories. Her ideas touch children by helping them face the fears and anxieties that prey upon their young minds. They assist the parents by giving them tools that take the growing pains out of growing up.

From the Author:

"I have had the opportunity to experience quite a few creative endeavors in my life, however none have equaled or have given me greater pleasure than to share these stories with my young listeners. The smile and the giggle of a child in a moment shared were worth everything it took to make these programs possible. However, the pleasures go on and on as I have watch my child grow into a young responsible adult and as I receive the letters and calls that tell me these stories continue to have impact on young lives. I started out as a young mother wanting to make a difference in my child's life, to protect, guide, to instill good values and nurture self-esteem. I found myself involved in something so much greater. I want to thank you the parents and most importantly I want to thank the children." My warmest regards to children of a common mother. Mother Earth, Trenna Daniells

"What compelled you to write these stories?"

When Travis was five and he was making his sojourn into the world, I was compelled by a need to impart to him values, encourage high self-esteem and self-responsibility issues that would assist him in making decisions. I attempted through example and by endless lectures to impart ideas such as being able to choose long term happiness over short-term pleasures. All of my talking sounded like pick up your toys or brush your teeth. I turned to available resourcesa puppet and my story telling abilities. Boo the Dragon became my sons best confidant and Boo was getting a lot more information through to him than I was and it was fun. Boo became his best friend confident; he told Boo more things that he ever told me! From my lecture days I remembered that people remembered information best in story form so why not children. Also, a character that was having a problem similar who they could empathize worked a great deal in my favor. Plus the added benefit that children have a insatiable appetite for repetition and I had a formula for success and a means to an end for my goals as a mother.
