East of Calgary and south of the Blackfoot Indian Reservation lies a farming district known as Snake Valley. In 1888 Captain Dawson brought British colonists to the area and settled them in Queenstown - one of the villages of the district. Other settlements in the region are known as Milo, Old Milo, Majorville, and Shouldice. Neighbouring communities include. Arrowwod, Lomond, Vulcan, Blackie, Cluny and Carseland. In 1912 Snake Lake was damned and enlarged to become Lake McGregor. Text of 610 pages includes Family history index at back. Plenty of b/w (family) photographs. War vets photos pp. 148 to 160. Followed by 8 pages of registered cattle brands. First 170 pages give a general history of the region beginning with the Majorville Cairn (circa 1050 A.D.) and concluding with the liquidation sale at the Milo Co-op in 1950. Churches (Lutheran) , hockey teams (Ladies) and schools (Liberty) are discussed. Family histories follow.
