Structures that best responded to the needs of those who settled here and represented their spirit and grand visions for life in a new land form Saskatchewan's historic architecture. Dating from the construction of Holy Trinity Church at Stanley Mission in 1854, historic architecture in Saskatchewan is relatively young by world standards. It has been created by architects, unschooled builders, and master craftsmen from many countries. They have established a hybrid of imported styles and utilitarian construction, intended originally to respond only to climate and satisfy immediate needs with the tools and materials at hand. These buildings are tributes to a time of optimism for the future and grand vision for a newly settled land. There is a story here worth telling while we can still see what remains of the buildings and remember the society that they served.
