Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. "Arthur Oliver Wheeler was not the first surveyor or alpinist to enter the Canadian Rockies, but his work in both areas was more important and far-reaching than that of most of the earlier pioneers. He was the first surveyor to provide a complete map of the icefields and peaks of the Rogers Pass region. His report on the area helped to establish Glacier National Park as one of the foremost alpine recreation areas in western Canada. In 1913, he initiated a survey of the interprovincial boundary between Alberta and British Columbia - the crest of the Great Divide. Ten years later he completed his work, having surveyed and mapped the backbone of the continent from the American border north to Mount Robson. When he died in Banff at the age of 83 he was referred to as 'The Grand Old Man of the Mountains.'". - dust jacket. [6],164 pages. Index. Black and white reproductions of archival photos.
