His birth mother had left his alcoholic father. That early exposure to alcohol likely defined the extremely chaotic life that professional hockey player Howie `Cowboy' Young played out. Later a friend of Bobby Hull. Howie appeared in a 1965 movie with Frank Sinatra. In September 1965 in Chicago he married Raelynn Paulson - his second wife.
