Shortly after he was born Howie Young was farmed out to his paternal grandmother, who became his lifelong surrogate mom. Jean and her husband lived near Highland Creek, Ontario. His birth mother had left his alcoholic father. That early exposure to alcohol likely defined the extremely chaotic life that professional hockey player Howie `Cowboy' Young played out. THESE 169 pages are about 40 % about hockey, 40% about alcoholism and its defeat and 10 % cowboy images. SECTION of b/w photos at center. In 1961 Howie was a Detroit roommate of Gordie Howe. Later a friend of Bobby Hull. Howie appeared in a 1965 movie with Frank Sinatra. In September 1965 in Chicago he married Raelynn Paulson - his second wife. Page 71 lays out his hockey career: OHA, WHL, QHL, AHL, NHL, WHL, CPHL, AHL, NHL, and WHA give the abbreviated picture. 3/31/76 is the date that Howard Young signed the ffep - 4 players from 1976 Winnipeg Jets signed the half-title.
