In this book, author Pat Macha has captured vital information on the location of historic--and long forgotten--aircraft crash sites...information that would otherwise have been lost to history.
Macha treats the subject with a reverence it deserves, and is a devoted and careful archaeologist that records the details of the site for accuracy and detail. He tries to instill in the reader this respect for the importance of these sites to future generations, and reports on how careless desecration of these sites is actually a loss for the future historical record.

The purpose of this work is twofold: to chronicle the approximate location of every aircraft crash site in the mountains and deserts of California, and to provide information on the cause and factors that contributed to these crashes. Unlike freeway automobile accidents that are quickly cleaned up, airplane wrecks that remain for years undisturbed provide us a sobering opportunity to consider the power of nature and the mistaken judgments of man. Sadly, the majority of the accidents listed resulted from pilot error, and not from the failure of aircraft systems or structure.
