Growing up near the shores of Sabine Lake in Orange County, Texas, Author Chester Moore, Jr., learned early that his greatest passion was the outdoors, in particular saltwater fishing.
Since 1992, he has won nearly two dozen writing, photography and conservation awards from the Texas Outdoor Writers Association, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and the Sportsman Conservationists of Texas.
In addition to being the Outdoors Editor for the Port Arthur News and Orange Leader newspapers, he also serves as Saltwater Editor of Texas Fish & Game® magazine. His freelance work appears in nearly a dozen outdoor publications.
Moore serves as state director for Ted Nugent's United Sportsmen America and has served as a board and/or advising member of the Houston/Gulf Coast Chapter of Safari Club International, the Sabine River Basin Corp., the Orange County Natural Resources Committee and the Gulf Coast Anglers Hall of Fame.
Moore stays involved with issues concerning the conservation of marine resources. In 1995 he worked with the "Free the Flatfish" Foundation in an effort to get recreational flounder limits changed, and helped to spawn numerous studies on the flounder in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida. He is also deeply involved in shark conservation and has helped to start a tagging program for Atlantic sharpnose sharks with Seagrant, and another study on blacktip, bull and spinner sharks with the Mote Marine Laboratory, which was founded by world-famous shark expert Eugenie Clarke.
Moore and his wife Lisa live in Orange, Texas, with their German shepherd Chyna and chocolate Labrador Sable. The Moores enjoy fishing, hunting and scuba diving together and also work together to promote the outdoors to young people in their area.
